Our Mission
Affecting positive change in the lives of individuals with addictions and their families through education, intensive therapy, and a compassionate, caring atmosphere.
Our Vision
We envision individuals living successfully in their recovery and becoming more productive members of society.
OUr Program
The Ranch combines the practical skills-building of a traditional halfway house with certified clinical and behavioral counseling. This allows us to treat the whole person and not just the obvious triggers for substance use.
About Us
The Ranch actually began in 1974 as a youth ranch sponsored by the Maryland Sheriff’s Association. For decades at-risk youth were offered a safe and supportive home where they could learn the skills necessary for adulthood.
In 2015 the mission changed, and The Ranch was born. Its new mission is to provide a clean and sober living environment with high quality clinical and life-skills services for adult men with substance use disorders. Our residents receive therapy by trained and qualified professionals on a weekly basis in an environment which supports them with an individualized “wrap around” program to guide them as they change their lives. The goal is for each individual to learn the life skills needed for leading a healthy life as a contributing member of the community. The Ranch is accredited by the Joint Commission.
Our Organization
The Ranch has a proud, long-standing history of being a non-profit 501c3 charitable healthcare and human services organization. We are self-owned and operated and fully accredited by The Joint Commission. We have a Board of Directors consisting of passionate individuals who freely contribute their wisdom, compassion, and professional skillsets to the goal of long-term governance and maintenance of the organization itself. There are no shareholders or businesspeople profiting from our healing work. As a non-profit, we reinvest our earnings in our staff, infrastructure, and our programs to continually better serve individuals in our care.
Our leadership team
Executive Director:
Jason Barth, a native Marylander, is a licensed mental health and substance use disorder treatment professional with over 25 years of clinical and leadership experience serving Frederick County and the State of Maryland. He came to The Ranch as executive director in 2020 and is dedicated to an environment rooted in fostering the medical model of recovery.

Program Director:
Anthony Vionet, a native “Fredericktonian,” Rotarian, and veteran of the US Army who used his GI Bill benefits to pursue a business degree from Mount Saint Mary’s, joined The Ranch’s leadership team in 2021.

Our Accreditation
The Ranch has The Joint Commission’s “Gold Seal of Approval,” which signifies our commitment to ongoing quality improvement, safety, and the use of evidence-based practices in our treatment model. It also highlights that we utilize an individualized care plan delivered by professionals who are appropriately qualified to deliver the care. The Joint Commission team comes to campus in person every three years to inspect and survey everything from our internal business practices such as human resources, hiring, training, through client-focused care delivery, and the physical and operational safety of our entire campus. We work hard to make certain our clients can trust that their caregivers are qualified and focused on positive outcomes and safety.

Client SpotlightS
I’m here writing this today to just kind of give an example of a good facility with people that actually care about us getting better. I assure you that for someone like me, this is the best. I came here such a broken-down man with no self-confidence or self-esteem after 50 overdoses and 9 heart attacks and now I have put myself back in school to get my high school diploma and I’m even going further than that. So, if yourself or a loved one is struggling with this demon do you really want to change and better yourself? If so, reach out to these people. I absolutely trust them to help anyone I care about or love.
Sincerely,
A Very Grateful Client
